Councilman Richard A. Starr Issues Statement on Rainbow Terrace Fire

CLEVELAND, OH – June 24, 2025 – Councilman Richard A. Starr today issued the following statement regarding the devastating fire and explosion that occurred yesterday, June 23, at the Rainbow Terrace apartments:
"Yesterday's tragic explosion at Rainbow Terrace has left 42 residents displaced, having lost everything they own. My heart goes out to each and every family affected by this devastating event.
On behalf of City Council, I express profound gratitude for the vital assistance being provided by the Red Cross. Their rapid response and ongoing support are invaluable during such a challenging time.
Instances like this are when Cleveland truly steps up and shows its heart. Our community's resilience and compassion are our greatest strengths, and these families need your support now more than ever.
Many Clevelanders and Northeast Ohioans have already reached out, asking how they can help these families in need. Clothing, hygiene products, toiletries, diapers, and non-perishable donations are being accepted at CornUcopia Place, 7201 Kinsman Rd., Suite 103b.
Additionally, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Cleveland for today. The City has opened cooling shelters for those in need. The closest shelter to Rainbow Terrace is located at Zelma George Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center, 3155 Martin L. King Blvd. Other cooling stations are located at:
- Collinwood Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 16300 Lakeshore Blvd.
- Frederick Douglass Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 15401 Miles Ave.
- Gunning Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 16700 Puritas Ave.
- Kovacic Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 6250 St. Clair Ave.
- Michael Zone Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 6301 Lorain Ave.
