Council Meeting Highlights (10/6/25)

Oct 06, 2025

City Council convened its regular in-person meeting in Council Chambers, which was also live-streamed. Don’t forget to update your contacts. Council email addresses are now .gov. The next meeting is Oct. 13th. Below are the highlights from today's meeting:

Lauren R. Welch Sworn in as New Ward 3 Councilwoman:  Lauren R. Welch has been appointed to serve as Councilwoman for Cleveland’s Ward 3, representing one of the city’s most dynamic and diverse areas, including Ohio City, the Flats and most of Downtown, Tremont and part of Stockyards.

Drawing on her record of civic leadership, Welch has set clear commitments for her council term that runs until Jan. 5, 2026: remaining accessible to residents, responding quickly to community concerns, and ensuring that ongoing projects move forward without interruption. She approaches her role as both a collaborator in City Council’s collective work and an advocate for neighborhood-level solutions that strengthen daily life in Ward 3. Read her entire bio.

Now a Euclid Beach Boulevard: Council approved changing the name of the portion of E. 159th Street north of Lakeshore Blvd. to “Euclid Beach Boulevard.” This portion of E. 159th Street currently ends just to the north at Euclid Beach Blvd. Our goal with renaming this portion of E. 159th Street is to honor the historic location of Euclid Beach Park by making Euclid Beach Blvd. intersect with Lakeshore Blvd. Sponsors include Councilman Mike Polensek and Council President Blaine A. Griffin. Ord. No. 1174-2025

Naming Rights for City Facilities: Council authorized the city to employ consultants to study, assess, market, and sell corporate sponsorships for City facilities and assets. They will conduct a strategic marketing study that assesses city assets to identify corporate sponsorship opportunities, new business categories (such as an official business or product provider for the City of Cleveland), and strategies to generate additional revenue, goods, and services for the city. The cost for the consultant is $305,000. Council amended the legislation to receive a semi-annual report on the progress. Ord. No. 820-2025

Introductions
Legislation was introduced to allow the city to employ consultants for wayfinding services, to assess, audit, and make recommendations to improve the ticketing lobby operations at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, for a period of one year. Ord. No. 1252-2025
