New Extend Stay Hotel Planned: Council approved selling several city lots on E. 90th street to Ortho School Properties LLC. Ortho and partners plan to build a extended stay hotel. Planned is a 127-room, 99,000-square-foot SpringHill Suites by Marriott to be built between East 90th and 93rd streets. The development project has a preliminary estimated construction cost of $21 million. Ord. No. 1223-2025.
Landmark Status: Council approved designating the Tamir Rice Butterfly Memorial as a Cleveland Landmark (Ord. No. 1084-2025), sponsored by Councilmember Jenny Spencer and the former Cleveland Fire Department Engine Company 26 Station House as a Cleveland Landmark (Ord. No. 1083-2025), sponsored by Councilman Richard Starr..
Cleveland State University: Restore WCSB to the Students Council passed a resolution sponsored by Council members Kris Harsh, Rebecca Maurer, Lauren Welch and Mike Polensek and later joined by all members, supporting the students and station members working to regain access to the 89.3 FM radio frequency and urging Cleveland State University to fully restore WCSB radio to its students.
The resolution reads in part, "On October 3, 2025, which was – ironically- World College Radio Day, Ideastream Public Media and CSU leadership engaged in a hostile takeover of the signal 89.3 FM. Students were unceremoniously and without notice locked out of the radio station and escorted from the building by police. This Council unequivocally supports the students and community members who continue to organize to reclaim their station and the culture of student-run WCSB 89.3 FM." Res. No. 1324-2025
