Cleveland Habitat, Council President, Mayor and Others Celebrate New House on Grandview Avenue

Apr 18, 2022

Today (4/18) join Council President Blaine A. Griffin, along with Congresswoman Shontel Brown, HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge and Mayor Justin Bibb for the groundbreaking of the 14th house on Grandview Avenue either built or rehabilitated by Cleveland Habitat for Humanity.

This new house construction is a little different, with more than 50 Construction Employers Association (CEA) members and their associates of union firms donating their time, talent, funds and materials to build a Cleveland Habitat house from start to finish, a first charitable venture of its kind for CEA.

The work on Grandview Avenue in Ward 6 is in line with other work Cleveland Habitat has done in the Greater Buckeye neighborhood since 2016, having completed 83 new home or rehabbed houses. And it compliments other nearby neighborhood improvements, including the work Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority is doing and it’s Choice Neighborhood redevelopment.

And for Vice Chair of CEA and President of Precision Environmental Co. Tony DiGeronimo, who brought the concept to Cleveland Habitat, the construction is personal for him because his grandparents lived in the neighborhood.

Who: Council President Griffin, Marcia Fudge, US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Congresswoman Shontel Brown, Mayor Bibb, Cleveland Habitat CEO and others.

What: Presentations from federal and local officials, as well as Cleveland Habitat and CEA. Information (and refreshments) for residents and students about apprentice opportunities with Construction Employers Association.

Where: 3 pm Monday, April 18th, 10804 Grandview Ave. Media parking available on Grandview Avenue, enter from Woodhill. (Street will be closed off, police will allow entry.)
