Cleveland City Council Announces Changes to Committee Assignments

Jan 26, 2023

Cleveland, OH (January 26, 2023) - Cleveland City Council recently announced changes to its committee assignments with the recent appointment of Danny Kelly to the Ward 11 council seat. Council member Kelly will serve on the three committees his predecessor did. Those committees are Municipal Services & Properties (MSP), Safety, and Utilities.

Council President Blaine A. Griffin also made changes to the leadership of the Municipal Services & Properties and Health, Human Services, and the Arts committees. Council member Richard A. Starr (Ward 5) now serves as vice-chair of the MSP committee, replacing former Council member Brian Mooney. Council member Rebecca Maurer (Ward 12) is the new vice-chair of the HHSA committee, replacing Council member Charles J. Slife (Ward 17).

Before being elected to Council, Council member Starr served as the Director of Sports and Recreation for Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio. His experience in that role and his tenure on Council have prepared him to serve as vice-chair of the Municipal Services & Properties committee.

Council member Slife voluntarily stepped down from his role as HHSA vice-chair but remains a committee member. Slife still has a full plate, continuing his leadership as vice-chair of the Transportation & Mobility Committee and as Council’s appointment to the Cleveland City Planning Commission.

Council member Maurer is a lawyer and community advocate. She's focused her legal career on issues relevant to the HHSA committee, including housing issues, lead safety, tenant's rights, and utility access.
