Cleveland Cavaliers' Announcement Great for Downtown

Sep 21, 2023

Cleveland (Sept. 21, 2023) – Council President Blaine A. Griffin and Councilman Kerry McCormack celebrated the announcement from the Cleveland Cavaliers about creating the first-of-its-kind sports performance center and training facility in Cleveland.

“The creation of the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center in Downtown is exciting and putting it at the Cuyahoga Riverfront helps anchor it as it transitions into an energized Cleveland neighborhood,” said Council President Griffin. “It builds on the city’s great strength in having the esteemed Cleveland Clinic as a partner as well as incorporating the city and Bedrock’s vision for the river front.”

Councilman McCormack, who represents the neighborhood, said the location is superb and builds additional energy in Downtown, which has become more than the business center of the city but a residential neighborhood.

“The decision by the Cavaliers and the Cleveland Clinic to locate this center and training facility in the heart of Downtown Cleveland is a strong display of confidence in the vibrancy of our City’s core,” said Councilman McCormack. “From its central location, to its amenities and diverse community, Downtown remains a great place to live, work and visit.”

The president of Downtown Cleveland, Inc. is equally enthused.

“Today’s announcement brings us one step closer to fulfilling our vision of a vibrant Cuyahoga Riverfront, connected to an equally vibrant core. This investment also re-enforces Downtown Cleveland’s strength as the region’s economic engine,” said Downtown Cleveland, Inc. President & CEO Michael Deemer.
