Martin Keane Ward 17
Councilman Martin J. Keane was first elected to City Council in 2007, representing Ward 17, which is the far west area of the city and includes the neighborhoods of Kamm’s Corners, West Park and Puritas.
Councilman Keane, who comes from a strong background of community service, has pushed for community and economic projects in his ward and has focused on safety, security and quality-of-life issues in the neighborhoods.
Councilman Keane is chairman of Council’s Transportation Committee, which is overseeing a $60 million renovation of Hopkins International Airport, as well as Burke Lakefront Airport which recently added commercial service and where a new terminal is under construction for business passengers. He is also a member of the Finance, Safety, Utilities, Operations and Rules committees.
Councilman Keane works closely with and helps support Kamms Corner Development Corp. which administers some city programs, including storefront renovation and building code compliance.
The results of a recent, city-wide property survey by the Western Reserve Land Conservancy, shows that West Park area housing stock is solid and has the lowest number of vacant and abandoned properties in the city.
Prior to City Council, Councilman Keane worked as a probation officer and most recently as Assistant County Prosecutor of Cuyahoga County.
Councilman Keane was raised in Ward 17 where is father had served on City Council back in the 1970s. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School, attended Ohio State University and earned a law degree at Cleveland Marshall College of Law. He and his wife have four children.
