The West Denison Baseball League is kicking off its 61st season Saturday, June 4, with a parade from Halloran Park on West 117th Street to nearby Thrush Park on West 105th Street.
The parade will step off at noon, followed by ceremonial festivities, refreshments and first pitches at Thrush Park’s three baseball diamonds. Mounted police and canine units will also attend.
Councilwoman Dona Brady is giving special recognitions to the league’s volunteers as well as to Blazy Landscaping, Kurtz Brothers and Boyas Excavating, three private companies that donated labor and material to refurbish the ball diamonds.
West Denison Baseball League is a non-profit community organization run by volunteers. It offers tee ball, baseball and softball for boys and girls of various ages. It also offers slow-pitch softball for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
