Council Members propose to change name of Kinsman Road to Stephanie Tubbs Jones Memorial Boulevard

Council Members Zack Reed, Ward 3, and Phyllis Cleveland, Ward 5, with the support of several of their colleagues, will introduce a resolution asking the State to designate State Route 422/Kinsman Road/Chagrin Boulevard as Stephanie Tubbs Jones Memorial Boulevard at tonight’s Council Meeting.

During the course of her career, Congresswoman Jones had a profound impact on the vitality of State Route 422.  She cared for the throughway itself by securing $11 million in Issue 2 funds to reconstruct the section between E. 93rd and E. 154th Streets.  She also fought for the children growing up along the road by co-chaired the Issue 14 campaign that brought $1.4 billion in school reconstruction dollars to Cleveland, a portion of which was used for AJ Rickoff School on Route 422.  Furthermore, the Congresswoman worked to develop residential dwellings along the route in supporting the rebuilding of 48 units of senior housing at Union Court Apartments and in securing funding for the redevelopment of Arbor Park Village.

The Congresswoman’s contributions to the community surrounding Route 422/Kinsman Road/Chagrin Boulevard have more than earned her the honor of having the throughway designated Stephanie Tubbs Jones Memorial Boulevard.

“This is a great opportunity to honor a great lady that did great things for our communities,” said Councilman Reed.
