Councilman Brancatelli sets up funeral fund for shooting victim

WHO:

Councilman Anthony Brancatelli, Ward 12, in cooperation with Slavic Village Development

WHAT: A funeral expenses fund for the family of 12-year-old Asteve'e "Cookie" Thomas, who was caught in the crossfire of a shootout while walking home from Mary's Deli near E. 55th Street.

WHERE:

Donations for the fund, set-up by Councilman Brancatelli, will be collected by Slavic Village Development, 5620 Broadway Avenue, when the development corporation reopens on Tuesday, September 4, 2007

Possible contributors to the funeral expenses fund can contact Marie Kittridge, Executive Director of Slavic Village Development, for more information on how to donate at (216) 429-1182.

WHY: "This tragedy results from the disregard for human life of two individuals that resorted to violence to solve a dispute," said Councilman Brancetelli.   "These actions are devastating not only to Cookie's family, but also to the community.  Now is the time for us to unite and to provide this family with support in their time of need."
