8th Cleveland City Council in the Neighborhoods Tour to cover Wards 20 & 21

Cleveland City Council President Martin J. Sweeney is taking Council's regular Monday night Meeting on the road and into the neighborhoods a final time to complete individual ward tours today, Monday, October 15, 2007 as part of an effort to bring Council closer to the people of the City of Cleveland.

The 8th tour and neighborhood Council Meeting is part of the Cleveland City Council in the Neighborhoods Initiative and will focus on Wards 20 and 21.  The regular Cleveland City Council meeting will be held at Gunning Recreation Center, 16700 Puritas Avenue , at 7 pm.

"It is important for all Members of City Council to have an understanding and knowledge of the diverse opportunities present in Cleveland's individual neighborhoods," said Council President Sweeney.  "Being out in the community for some of our meetings gives us a chance to really connect with the people living in the neighborhoods we visit."

The neighborhood tour will cover the Kamm's Corner neighborhood in Ward 21, represented by Councilman Martin J. Keane; the Jefferson and Puritas-Longmead neighborhoods in Council President Sweeney's Ward 20; and the Riverside neighborhood, falls into both Wards.

Council launched the Cleveland City Council Neighborhoods Initiative in the Spring of 2006.  The Ward tour before the Council Meeting helps Council acquire a better understanding and knowledge of all of Cleveland's diverse neighborhoods.  The Ward tours allow Council Members to share the accomplishments, opportunities, and challenges of each individual Ward.

With the conclusion of the 8th Cleveland City Council in the Neighborhoods tour, Council will have toured all of the wards in the City, culminating in a Council meeting in the neighborhood.
