Council Members Join Cuyahoga County Mortgage Fraud Task Force to announce indictment in $5.8 million fraudulent loans case
 
 
WHO: Councilman Tony Brancatelli, Ward 12
Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, Ward 5
Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason; and
Cuyahoga County Mortgage Fraud Task Force
   
WHAT: The announcement of the indictment of three defendants responsible for over $5.8 million in fraudulent loans for 78 houses in the Slavic Village area resulting from an investigation conducted by the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission’s Cuyahoga County Mortgage Fraud Task Force
   
WHEN: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 10:30 am
 
WHERE: 4917 Barkwill Avenue at E. 49th Street (near I 77)
   
WHY:

     “This announcement is an important step toward combating the predatory lending that is responsible for the sea of foreclosures that have adversely impacted Cleveland,” said Councilman Brancatelli. 

     “We are determined to stop the devastation that has been caused by mortgage fraud.”

     The Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission’s Cuyahoga County Mortgage Fraud Task Force is comprised of 16 federal, state, and local enforcement agencies.  Task force members are: Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office, Cleveland Heights Police Department, Solon Police Department, Cleveland Police Department, Pepper Pike Police Department, HUD, Cuyahoga County Auditor, Cuyahoga County Treasurer, Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Financial Invest, F.B.I., U.S. Attorney’s Office, and U.S. Postal Inspector.
