Ward 5 celebrates the renovation of the historic Emeritus House
and the Re-opening of Phillis Wheatley Association

WHO: Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, Ward 5,
Mayor Frank G. Jackson,
Marous Brothers Construction

WHAT: A celebration of the renovation of the historic Emeritus House and the return of the Phillis Wheatley Association to the building.

The Phillis Wheatley Association operates as a social service agency situated within Emeritus House, 4450 Cedar Avenue.  The Association manages the building in addition to offering a variety of social services, including a music school and child and adult day care.  Emeritus House is an affordable housing apartment complex that underwent a complete renovation that replaced 56 outdated efficiency units with modern, mostly 1-bedroom apartments.  Former residents, which were temporarily moved, will begin to return the week of December 3, 2007, while a portion of the units will be available to new residents.

WHEN: Friday, November 30, 2007 at 11:30 am

WHERE: Emeritus House, 4450 Cedar Avenue

WHY: “The Emeritus House and the Phillis Wheatley Association have long worked together to provide affordable housing and services to residents,” said Councilwoman Cleveland.  “A renovation of the 80 year old structure ensures that this community asset continues to operate successfully and residents have access to much needed services.”
