Cleveland City Council unanimously voted, in today’s Caucus, to appoint Shari Cloud to fill the vacancy in Cleveland City Council’s Ward 8 and Eugene Miller to fill the vacancy in Cleveland City Council’s Ward 10.
At this evening’s 7 pm Council Meeting, Ms. Cloud, Executive Director of Sankofa Fine Arts Plus; and Mr. Miller, former Ohio State Representative, D-10; will take the oath of office to replace former Council Members Sabra Pierce Scott, Ward 8, and Roosevelt Coats, Ward 10.
Ms. Scott, who recently announced her resignation to pursue new challenges, has highly recommended Ms. Cloud as her replacement.
“I believe that Shari Cloud has the skill, dedication, passion and heart necessary to lead the Ward 8 community to the next level,” said former Councilwoman Scott. “She will be a strong voice for our community.”
Ms. Cloud serves as the Executive Director of Sankofa Fine Arts Plus, whose mission is to develop and advocate for ethnic artists and present ethnic art as a credible and meaningful art form through community and collaboration. In this role, Ms. Cloud was a voice in the Ward 8 community, successfully advocating for community art projects that reduce blight, build relationships and instill pride throughout the surrounding neighborhoods.
“I’ve have served this community for years through grassroots organizations and I am honored and proud to be given this opportunity,” said Ms. Cloud. “I am looking forward to serving my community as the Councilwoman and moving together with a shared vision for the future of our neighborhhoods.”
Mr. Coats, who recently announced his resignation to pursue office as an Ohio State Representative, has highly recommended Mr. Miller as his replacement.
“It has been my honor and privilege to know Eugene Miller and watch him grow in his service to the community,” said former Councilman Coats. “I am confident that Eugene has every skill necessary to lead the Ward 10 community.”
Mr. Miller most recently served as the Representative of the 10th District in the Ohio House of Representatives, where his priorities included ensuring the public safety of all Ohioans, making health care more affordable and accessible and helping citizens become more financially literate.
“I intend to focus on a vision of what Ward 10 can be in 2020 and to work hard with residents, street by street, to make that vision a reality,” said Mr. Miller. “Essential to a better tomorrow is focusing on the quality of life issues, which are the core of day to day living, today.”
