Council to learn about processes for identifying and processing tax delinquent properties for the City LandBank under H.B. 294

Cleveland City Council's Community and Economic Development and Public Service Committees will hold a joint hearing on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 9:30 am to learn about the procedure for identifying and processing tax delinquent properties for the City LandBank under the new regulations set forth in the H.B. 294 foreclosure option.

H.B 294, passed by the Ohio Legislature in 2006, reduces the amount of time it takes to designate delinquent vacant lands subject to judicial foreclosure, speeds the foreclosure procedure for tax delinquency and requires residential and rental property owners to file with the County Auditor certain information about the owner and the property.  Cleveland City Council passed a resolution in support of the bill.

Representatives from the County Treasurer's Office, the County Prosecutor's Office and the Cleveland Department of Community Development will address the joint committee.

"H.B 294 significantly speeds up the foreclosure process, which, in turn, allows Cleveland to move forward with neighborhood redevelopment" said Councilman Anthony Brancatelli, Vice Chair of the Community and Economic Development Committee.   "It is important for Council to understand the process in order to more effectively create neighborhood redevelopment strategies that take vacant, foreclosed upon properties into account."
