| New appointment of Councilwoman Mamie J. Mitchell results in committee assignment changes |

Ward 6 Councilwoman Mamie J. Mitchell, who was voted in unanimously by Cleveland City Council as a replacement for former Councilwoman Patricia J. Britt, has received the following committee assignments from Council President Martin J. Sweeney: (1) the Aviation and Transportation Committee; (2) the Health and Human Services Committee; and (3) the Public Safety Committee.
Due to the arrival of Councilwoman Mitchell, some additional committee assignment changes have been made. Councilman Tony Brancatelli, Ward 12, has been appointed Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. He will leave the Employment, Affirmative Action and Training Committee. Councilman Martin J. Keane, Ward 21, has been appointed Vice Chair of the Aviation and Transportation Committee and Councilwoman Nina Turner, Ward 1, has been appointed to the Finance Committee. Councilman Brian Cummins, Ward 15, has been appointed to the Employment, Affirmative Action and Training Committee and Councilman Jay Westbrook, Ward 18, has stepped down from the Health and Human Services Committee.
“Councilwoman Mitchell will be a welcome addition to the committees she has joined,” said Council President Sweeney. “Additional committee changes align newer Council Members who have now had some experience in the body with their interests. The overall makeup of Council’s new committee structure will help this Council serve as effective and efficient representatives of the citizens of the City of Cleveland.”
The reassignment of newer Council Members better reflects their interests, concerns and talents. Councilman Jay Westbrook, who is among those who have taken the lead on Council’s Breaking the Cycle of Abandonment Initiative, will have an opportunity to devote more of his time to this critical issue. |
