WHAT:

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: A Day On, Not A Day Off
Councilwoman Turner, in conjunction with the Closing the Achievement Gap Initiative, has pulled together a collaborative between John F. Kennedy High School, Kaiser Permanente and Sherwin Williams, to paint classroom(s) in the high school in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s mission of betterment on the holiday.

Kaiser Permanente volunteers will join students in painting classroom(s) at John F. Kennedy High School.  Students will paint a wall-size mural while volunteers paint the other walls using paints supplied by Sherwin Williams and supplies purchased by Kaiser Permanente.

   
WHEN: Monday, January 21, 2008
Painting starts at 7 am
A presentation on the Closing the Achievement Gap Initiative to be held at 11:30 A.M.
 
WHERE: John F. Kennedy High School, 17100 Harvard Avenue
   
WHY: “Student and community involvement in a commitment to education is an integral part of Closing the Achievement Gap.  By coming to school on their day off, these JFK High School students are illustrating their dedication to obtaining an education,” said Councilwoman Turner.  “Through collaborative ventures such as Kaiser Permanente’s annual Martin Luther King Day On, Not a Day Off, we are able to bring the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, the Ward 1 community, and those involved in the Closing the Achievement Gap Initiative together for the benefit of the  students of John F.
