Council has new Clerk; Ward 6 Council Representative

On January 14, 2008, Cleveland City Council unanimously appointed former Councilwoman Patricia J. Britt to serve as City Clerk, Clerk of Council.

"I feel that, in this role, I will be able to expand the tradition of commitment to community and service that I spent 6 years building while serving as Councilwoman of Ward 6," said Ms. Britt.   "Furthermore, I feel that this leadership role will allow me to bring a renewed direction and strength to the body of Council."

Mamie J. Mitchell was unanimously appointed to fill the vacancy in Ward 6.  Councilwoman Mitchell is a long time community activist who most recently served as a Cuyahoga County Assistant Prosecutor in the Child Support Enforcement Division.

"I am committed to promoting safety and security in the community and making Ward 6 a destination where residents are comfortable living, working and raising families.   I also intend to focus on community and economic development in Ward 6 to enhance the neighborhood to its full potential," said Councilwoman Mitchell.   "I am grateful for this opportunity to serve a community very close to my heart."

Councilwoman Mitchell will run for the Ward 6 Council seat she has been appointed to in a March 18, 2008 special election.
