Councilwoman’s Aide donates to Wigs for Kids:

Rochelle Long, Assistant to Ward 6 Councilwoman Patricia J. Britt, recently donated a foot-long braid of hair to Wigs for Kids, a non-profit organization that makes and distributes wigs to children that have lost their hair as result of an illness, health condition or accident.

Long decided to cut of her long, thick hair and donate it after she watched a network special on St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital this past weekend. “When I watched the special on St. Jude’s and saw that none of the kid’s had hair –that’s what pushed me to do it,” said Long. “Those children need all the support they can get and donating my hair was a way that I could help.”

Long had her hair cut at Michelle’s Beauty Shop on, 2221 Broadview Road, in Cleveland. Michelle Agosto, the cosmetologist, whose practice it is to donate hair when possible, is forwarding Rochelle’s braid to Wigs for Kids. “We have several customers that donate to Wigs for Kids. One gentleman grows his hair out for that very reason,” said Agosto. “Anytime someone cuts that much hair off, I suggest they donate.”

A minimum of 12 inches of hair is needed for Wigs for Kids to be able to make a wig from your donation. Wigs for Kids also accepts monetary donations. For more information, go to www.wigsforkids.org or call the Rocky River branch of Wigs for Kids at (440) 333-4433.
