STATEMENT FROM COUNCILMAN ROOSEVELT COATS:
On moving on to the next challenge

“Today, I am leaving my position as Ward 10 Councilman after 21 years of service.  I have recommended Eugene Miller, former State Representative of the 10th District, to replace me on Council.  There will be a caucus on May 4, 2009 to consider him as my replacement as the new Councilman of Ward 10. I am confident that Eugene has every skill necessary to lead the Ward 10 community to the next level; you will be in good hands under his guidance.

How do you measure the work of 21 years? Some would measure by the number of new developments established; such as The Cleveland Job Corp Academy, the new Corner Stone senior apartment complex, the new East Clark and Euclid Park Schools, new businesses at Five Points or the $4.5 million is in place to build a recreation facility complementing the new Football and track field on East 152nd Street.

I would like to think that my work will be measured by the number of lives that have been touched and the positive impact that has been made on others to strive for higher goals.  I would also hope that my work would be measured by the continued determination of residents to fight for their community and to keep the torch blazing with the light of hope and faith.  Faith that will prove itself to be stronger than the current economic hardships many are facing; Faith that will cause you to yet dream for a better tomorrow.  Hope that will stay alive in our hearts, soul and mind.”
