Councilman Kevin Conwell continues the Sounds of Safety to “Silence the Violence” School Tour

On Tuesday April 17th and Wednesday, April 18, 2007 Councilman Conwell, Ward 9, Radio One and the Police Athletic League (PAL) will continue the Sounds of Safety to “Silence the Violence” Ward 9 school tour.  The purpose of this tour is to connect with elementary, junior and high school students through music and to talk to them about making safe and intelligent choices to stay out of trouble.  After kicking off the program with a short jam session, Councilman Conwell and his band, The Footprints, and the local R&B hit group Deep 3 will talk to the kids about getting a good education, setting goals and avoiding drugs, alcohol and tobacco.  More music will close the program out.   “Music is a universal language,” said Councilman Conwell.  “Once we are all speaking the same language, kids are more than willing to hear what we have to say.”

On Tuesday, April 17th, the Sounds of Safety to “Silence the Violence” Ward 9 school tour will be at Mary M. Bethune School, 11815 Moulton Avenue, from 9:00 to 9:50 am and Forest Hill Parkway School, 450 E. 112th Street from 10:00 to 10:50 am.

On Wednesday, April 18th, the Sounds of Safety to “Silence the Violence” Ward 9 school tour will be at Glenville High School, 650 E. 113th Street, from 9:30 to 10:30 am where Council President Martin J. Sweeney will introduce Councilman Conwell, and the School of the Performing Arts, 2064 Stearns Road, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The remaining tour dates are as follows:

Fri, April 27th Captain Arthur Roth School 9:00 am to 9:50 am
  12523 Woodside Avenue

Fri, May 4th Harry E. Davis School 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm
