On the Road Again: 5th Cleveland City Council in the Neighborhood Tour to cover Wards 4, 6 and 8.

Cleveland City Council President Martin J. Sweeney is again taking regular Council Meetings on the road and into the neighborhoods as part of an effort to bring Council closer to the people of the City of Cleveland.

The 5th tour and neighborhood Council Meeting is part of the Cleveland City Council in the Neighborhoods Initiative and will cover Wards 4, 6 and 8.  The regular Cleveland City Council meeting on April 16, 2007 will be held at Kenneth L. Johnson Recreation Center, 9206 Woodland Avenue, at 7 pm.

“It is important for all Members of City Council to have an understanding and knowledge of all of Cleveland’s diverse neighborhoods,” said Council President Sweeney.  “Moving some of our regular meetings to different Wards gives Council Members the opportunity to learn more about different portions of the City.”

The neighborhood tour will cover the Buckeye and Shaker Square neighborhoods in Wards 4 and 6, the Little Italy, Fairfax, Fairwood and Woodland Hills neighborhoods in Ward 6, University Circle in Wards 6 and 8 and the Glenville and St. Clair Superior neighborhoods in Ward 8.

Council launched the Cleveland City Council Neighborhoods Initiative in the Spring of 2006.  The Ward tour before the Council Meeting helps Council acquire a better understanding and knowledge of all of Cleveland’s diverse neighborhoods.  The Ward tours allow Council Members to share the accomplishments, opportunities, and challenges of each individual Ward.

Council intends to tour all of the wards in the City in several clusters, culminating in a Council meeting in the neighborhood.
