National Day of Climate Action:

Greater Cleveland Area Organizations share their goals and objectives in the fight against global warming, call on Congress to take action.

Cleveland City Councilman Matt Zone along with Step It Up and several other Greater Cleveland partners will stand together on April 12, 2007 and urge Congress to take action to reverse global warming and curb climate change.

A press conference to discuss the realities of global warming and the steps that can be taken to reverse it will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 12, 2007 in Cleveland City Council’s Committee Room.  Held two days before the National Day of Climate Action on April 14th, this press conference is one of 1,200 events nationwide that serve to call attention to the dangers of doing nothing to stop global warming.

“As elected representatives we understand that we are working toward a better future for our children and grandchildren,” said Councilman Matt Zone, chairman of Council’s Public Utilities Committee.  “We also understand that acting alone, we will not be able to reverse the global warming trend.  Federal and International action are needed to really make a difference.”

Press conference speakers will highlight the significant and growing activity in the Cleveland area directed toward environmental sustainability, alternative energy, green building and greenhouse gas reduction. Conference speakers include:
  • Cleveland City Council Member Matt Zone - MC
  • Andrew Watterson, City of Cleveland Sustainability Manager
  • Richard King, ALCOA – Member of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership
  • Pam Rosado, Policy Matters Ohio – Apollo Alliance
  • Representatives from the Office of Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones
  • Representatives from the Office of Congressman  Dennis Kucinich
  • Bill Spratley, Green Energy Ohio
Other Participating Organizations:
  • Audubon Society – Marnie Urso
  • Buckeye Forest Council – Randy Cunningham
  • Cleveland Clean Air Century Campaign – Linda Kimble
  • Cleveland Green Building Coalition – Melanie Kintner Knowles
  • Earth Day Coalition – Chris Trepal
  • EcoCity Cleveland - Marc Lefkowitz
