Robert J. White, III Biography

Ward 2

In his years serving on City Council, Councilman Robert J. White, III had made it his mission to bring opportunities and advantages to the residents of Ward 2, which includes the Union-Miles and Turney neighborhoods.

Since joining Cleveland City Council, Councilman White has focused on economic and community development initiatives, collaborating with the Union-Miles Development Corporation to bring about growth. The Mill Creek housing development, completed under Councilman White, is an example of the kind of growth the Councilman hopes to promote.

Councilman White works hard to provide access to resources to Ward 2 residents.  He played a key role in the city’s acquisition of the Miles Avenue YMCA in order to ensure that the services provided by that facility remain available to the Ward 2 community.  Other projects that he has accomplished for the Ward included the reopening of John Adams High School and strides to make life easier for the aging population.

White is a life-long resident of Ward 2. He attended the Cleveland public school system until he was accepted at Cushing Academy in Asburnham, Massachusetts through the "A Better Chance Scholarship Program."  Councilman White attended Bates College in Lewiston, Massachusetts where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science and education. From there, Councilman White attended The Penn State Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Before taking office, Councilman White worked as an insurance agent, a teacher and a legal intern for the Wilkerson & Seamon Law Firm and the Rite Aid Corporation.  These opportunities led to Councilman White's future in public service and instilled in him the desire to ensure that others are given the same opportunities that he had.

Working on behalf of Cleveland's Ward 2 keeps Councilman White busy, but family is important and he makes sure that he spends quality time with his wife, Darlene. He also enjoys reading, lifting weights, playing a "little" football, basketball and traveling. Councilman White is a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
