Mr. Martin Hauserman, resident of Ward 11, has been Chief Archivist for Cleveland City Council since 1985 and the Chief City Archivist since 2002.
As the Chief City Archivist, Mr. Hauserman is responsible for the care of over 1,350,000 sheets of paper and over 700 bound volumes. His duties revolve around historic and code-related research and the preservation of various collections. In getting the Cleveland City Archives Office of the Council records ready for public use, he has become an unofficial expert on the 1,500 page City Codified Ordinances as well as the City’s history from 1836 to 2007.
After graduating from University School and Lebanon Valley College where he received his BA in Political Science in 1972, Mr. Hauserman obtained his MSLS from Case Western Reserve University in 1976.
Prior to Council, he was a manuscript specialist for the Western Reserve Historical Society and later processed the Catholic Charities Corporation Papers at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland.
In addition to his duties for City Council, Mr. Hauserman has been a member of the Association of Record Managers and Administrators, the Cleveland Archival Roundtable and the Society of Ohio Archivists. He was also the Northeastern Ohio Co-Coordinator for Archives Week in 1997 and 1998.
