Mr. Allan Dreyer currently serves as the Deputy Clerk, where he assists the Clerk of Council and the Council President in managing the day-to-day operations of Cleveland City Council. From 2006 to 2008, he served as the Executive Assistant to the Council President since 2006. His duties in this position include overseeing all activities of the Council President, including scheduling, inquiries from the public, phone calls, addressing the needs of Council Member and representing the Council President in meetings s as well as acting as the Council President’s liaison to other City departments and the Council staff.
A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Allan earned his bachelor degree in architecture. He also finished Cleveland State University’s Local Officials Leadership Academy, a leadership development program for officials from the public sector.
After college, Mr. Dreyer worked at a community organizer training institute in Chicago where he administered training programs and was lead coordinator of the program’s annual conference. He then joined the staff of Cleveland City Council working as a Councilmanic Aide and then was promoted to City Council President’s Assistant and Chief of Staff. Under his guidance, operations of Council were modernized. After working for City Council for 13 years, Mr. Dreyer spent 5 years working at the Cuyahoga County Department of Workforce Development where he developed the Building HOPE program and the Cuyahoga Training Academies, training and support programs for homeless and ex-offenders. He also worked as a political campaign consultant and manager for Council and judicial races before returning to Cleveland City Council to act as the Executive Assistant to the Council President.
Mr. Dreyer lives in Ward 16 and is very active throughout the community. He has served on boards of non-profit organizations including Cudell Improvement, Inc., a local community development corporation; the Earth Day Coalition, a local non-profit environmental education and advocacy organization; and Neighborhood Family Practice, a non-profit community health center in Cleveland with offices in the Tremont and Stockyards neighborhoods.
