Ms. Patricia J. Britt

Ms. Patricia J. Britt was appointed to serve as City Clerk, Clerk of Council unanimously on January 14, 2008 by the Cleveland City Council.

As Clerk of Council, Ms. Britt is the chief administrative officer of the Office of Cleveland City Council. Her duties include supervising the recording and retention of all official reports, communications and transcripts delivered to Council and the certification of all legislation.

Ms. Britt is also responsible for overseeing Cleveland City Council's staff of more than 40 and interacting with the 21 council members and their assistants. Her leadership helps Cleveland City Council serve Cleveland residents with pride and productivity.

Prior to being appointed to serve as City Clerk, Clerk of Council, Ms. Britt served on Cleveland City Council representing Ward 6 since 1995.  Throughout her tenure as Councilwoman, Ms. Britt concentrated her efforts on spurring growth and creating stability in the Ward 6 community.  In an effort to spark economic development, she agreed to allow the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, which will include an intervention center focused on reintegrating juvenile offenders into society, to move into a vacant lot at E. 93rd Street and Quincy Avenue.  Additionally, she helped to negotiate the building of a new MetroHealth clinic for the Buckeye Shopping Center and assisted Nottingham Spirk Innovation Center in their relocation to Ward 6.

Ms. Britt also served on the faculty of the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University prior to serving as Clerk where she had the opportunity to integrate her love for her community and her commitment to social work.  The Clerk has and continues to work towards establishing and maintaining partnerships between various sectors such as industry, education, banking and health care.

Ms. Britt is currently a member of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials and serves on the national Community and Economic Development Steering Committee for the National League of Cities.
